At Brassington & Browndorf, complex custody & child support are sensitive issues that are handled with a focus on what is best for the child. During your first in office consultation, a parenting plan will be discussed which is centrally focused on the child’s best interest. At our law office, we refrain from using the terminology “child visitation” because we believe children are not visited, they are parented.

Creating Parenting Plans that Work

With more than 40 years of experience as a divorce, complex custody & child support lawyer, Stephen A. Browndorf has extensive expertise in preparing parenting plans that work around even the most challenging schedules. He will help you develop effective plans that are designed to meet the best interests of the children involved. The parents’ needs are important as well, so we take a global approach, understanding that the parenting plan is paramount to the children as well as the parents.

Each parenting plan has three main components, the first of which involves deciding which parent will have “sole custody” or whether there will be “joint custody” or “joint legal custody.” We will also agree on which parent will be the “parent of primary residence” and which will be the “parent of alternate residence.” The parenting plan will include which days the children will be in each respective parent’s care and we will also discuss the holiday schedule which can be customized to meet the needs of the child.

Child support is determined by a formula which considers the gross income of each parent, retirement contributions that are mandated, work-related child care expenses paid by either parent, health insurance for the children and additional expenses that are approved by the court.

At Brassington & Browndorf, we are here to help you create a viable parenting plan in your child’s best interest.
